An Analysis of the Factors Affecting Nursing Students¡¯ Political Participation in a College of Nursing : Political Interest, Political Efficacy and Media Use

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of political interest, political efficacy, and media usage on political participation of nursing students in a college of nursing.

Methods : A total of 336 participants were surveyed in this study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and multiple regression using the SPSS 23.0 program.

Results : The mean score on political efficacy was 32.19¡¾5.62. Political participation showed a statistically significant positive correlation with political interest( r£½.55, p£¼.001), political efficacy(r£½.38, p£¼.001) and media usage(r£½.22, p£½.020). The variables explained the political participation by 30.0%.

Conclusion : Political interest, political efficacy, and the use of media are positively correlated with the political participation of nursing students, so it is necessary to increase their participation through subjective perception change by implementing policies to actively utilize these factors.
